Word of the Day: Awe Image of the Day: Kozy Koala, Izzy bear and Reuben the very pink pig!
Token of the Day: a second set of 3 "Fantasy Kingdom Collection Pony Tails" Gail writes: Perhaps this word engenders a beautiful mountain scene or the sea or some other natural WONDER or perhaps it is these three guys and the ability to hear what they say and accept what they offer Such a tiny word, such a complex concept! Here are some of my musings:
Awe
in awe
awesome
awful?
"I am wondrously and awesomely made" Psalm 139
awesome = remarkable, outstanding
Wow!, Fantastic! particularly US and Aussie slang
in awe - amazed, speechless, eyes wide, mouth open
overawed = to control or subdue by inspiring awe.
awestricken, awestruck, awed - having or showing a feeling of mixed reverence and respect and wonder and dread; "stood in awed silence before the shrine"; "in grim despair and awestruck wonder"
Loch Awe - anglicised from the Gaelic Loch Obha a beautiful place, known as the Jewel of Argyll. Certainly a place where one's breath is taken away.
The word awe comes from Old English eġe, influenced during Middle English by forms from the Old Norse cognate agi.
in awe
i freeze
knees shattered on frosty ground.
hands shredded by shards of ice
face transfixed, paralysed
eyes pouring icicles
which break off
and continue to pierce
hands spread wide and bleeding.
the awful sight
too much for one mere mortal to bear
dread and wonder in equal measure
sublime beauty
shuddering power
the might to move mountains
the reverence to cherish snowdrops
God lays out her mantle and sighs.

Wow .. what an awesome, powerful poem... the beauty yet the pain, contained in one..... thank you
